“WHAT ARE THE 3 THINGS I SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT DO IF I GET PULLED OVER?”
Juan M. Pembroke Pines.
Great question Juan, I get asked this a lot so here goes.
1. EXCUSE & BEG
Do not make excuses and do not beg. Be as polite and UN-memorable as possible. You want the cop to not really remember you so when we go to court we can try and get your ticket dismissed. We can argue because the cop does not have any memory of pulling you over, his testimony is inadmissible.
2.DON’T CONFESS
When he asks you “Do you know why I pulled you over?”, just say no. When he tells you, don’t admit it and don’t deny it, just say “hmm”. He either will or will not write a ticket, but if you answer “I assume it’s because I went through that stop sign … was speeding … or crossed lanes”, you just confessed and he will note it on his copy of the ticket.
3.SIGN THE TICKET
After he writes up the ticket, he may ask you to sign it. By signing it, you are only stating that you received the ticket, not that you agree with it. If you refuse to sign, he can and will probably arrest you. Again, signing the ticket is just the Court’s way of ensuring that you come to court and you can not say you did not get the ticket if you signed it.
